WHAT KIND OF MAN IS THIS?

Matthew  8:23-27

Introduction:

Miracles leading up to our Passage.

I. No Ordinary Storm  (23-24)

A. Journey Into The Unknown

1. This is no ordinary storm.  Many of the Disciples grew up on the Sea of Galilee.  This was a ‘Megas Seismos’.  

Mega = Huge, Massive, Ginormous

Seismor = Term from which we get seismic

2. To follow Christ is a call to suffer with Christ.

B. Our Future in God’s Hands

1. Disciples still struggled with this.  They were afraid, and allowed that fear to bury itself deep inside their hearts.  Fears will come, but we are not conquered by our fears.

2. At The Gates of Gondor

II. Floundering Faith  (25-26)

A. Fear Becomes Panic

1. Disciples saw the unusual storm.  They allowed their fears to swallow them.  This turned to panic.

2. Jesus told them that the root cause of their fear was a lack of faith.  They had seen Jesus work in Power - yet doubted him in their own time of fear / suffering.

B. Contrast with the calm of Jesus.  Even a ‘megas seismos’ is no match for our Lord.

III.   The Question  (27)

What Kind of Man is This?

Answer is clear:  Jesus is God, and we should fall at His feet and worship Him.

The wind and the waves obey Jesus.  Do you and I obey Him?  Even if my suffering leads to death, I can still trust Him.  Are you trusting Jesus in the midst of your storm?
